Charente-Maritime has around 2300 sunshine hours a year - comparable to the Mediterranean in the micro-climate in our part of the region, thanks to the off-shore islands and the Gulf Stream. Most beaches are safe for small children but some are excellent for wind-surfing and body-board surfing. Areas for jet-ski and wind-surfing are usually clearly defined so that these activities do not impinge on the shore bathing.
